SOUND ONE: A LOVE LETTER

In the historic Brill Building at 1619 Broadway, Sound One stood as the premier East Coast sound mixing studio. Over the years, it expanded across multiple floors, occupying the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 11th floors, housing five mixing stages, two ADR studios, a Foley stage, and extensive editing rooms. From the 1980s through its closure in 2012, Sound One served as the final creative stop for landmark films such as Goodfellas, Do the Right Thing, The Silence of the Lambs, Working Girl, A Bronx Tale, The Civil War, The Sixth Sense, Fargo and many more.

More than just a film mixing studio, Sound One was a creative sanctuary, a training ground, and a second family, where collaboration came first, mentorship mattered, and craft outweighed commerce.

Through personal stories and archival material, this documentary explores the uniquely human culture of Sound One, told by the craftspeople who built a community where art was made together, under one roof.
